Russell Brand, the saviour for tech start-ups everywhere

So Russell 'walking dictionary' Brand is on Twitter. The whole idea of celebrities involving themselves in geekery is one that I abhor. We're supposed to be grown-ups, able to fight off the pubescent urge to hero worship and giggle at the sight of them off the telly going about like normal people.

It seems that I'm in a minority though, a tiny little segment of the online world, as Philip Schofield, Jonathon Ross and Mr Brand have all developed huge followings on Twitter. By golly their profiles must be an absolute boon for Twitter.

At a time when start-ups are feeling the economic chill to the core and desperately chasing monetisation, the most valuable commodity for most will be traffic. Unwittingly Twitter seems to have cottoned onto a winning formula, driving its platform to a mass market.

New startups take note, if you want to ensure that your venture is drawing the masses then try pandering to Mr Fry and his ilk.
