PR Week are seriously well connected

Start taking it seriously folks, PR Week is hardwired into the political elite.

Thanks to a number of recent high profile Downing Street scoops, the Observer has given a shout out to our industry's foremost rag for it's political scandal sniffing abilities.

But who is it on the 'Week's staff with the direct line to all governmental secrets? Any ideas? And does this suggest that along with the ugly new redesign a potential name change is imminent, something like PA Week perhaps?

Brendan Cooper has made my day!

Porter Novelli good guy Mr Brendan Cooper has compiled his latest blog rankings and due to a little bit of nepotism and a large slice of luck, this blog features in at #89 with a bullet. Brendan's rankings prove something that I've long suspected...that someone actually reads this blog, and for that I'm very happy.

I'm on the cusp of disintegrating into a Gwyneth Paltrow Oscar acceptance speech and so before I make a complete fool out of myself....I'm going to sign off.

Just to prove that it's not what you know...

Today The Times is running a story regarding ‘secret’ talks between Conservative MP Michael Gove and Lord Levy and an attempt to poach him for the Tories. This is the same Michael Gove who was employed as a columnist in the pages of The Times’ T2 supplement and will now be writing regularly on the main Opinion page.

This isn’t the first time this has happened either; on 14th May an article appeared announcing that Michael Gove was approaching Labour peer Lord Adonis with a mind to welcome him into the Tory fold.

Quite an interesting turn of events I think, and a demonstration of the Times’ Tory bias. Something to keep in mind when pitching perhaps….

There's a celebrity at Hotwire Towers

Exciting news from 33-41 Dallington Street! Skywrite Director Ms Emma Cohen has been moonlighting as an online and satellite television star, reviewing technology and DVDs for a programme called Download. I was hoping to embed the video in the post but sadly it doesn't look like it's possible. So instead, take a peek using the links below.

Things Dom likes to do

I was tagged on a meme far too many weeks ago for it to be polite, and I'm now just getting round to doing my duty and responding. So to explain, my ex-colleague Ms Emily Wearmouth, wrote a post based on search rankings when she asked Google "what does Emily like to do?"

So, when I asked Google 'Dom likes to?', these were my results. Hopefully this won't prove to be an ultimately pointless exercise but let's wait and see eh? It could be educational for everyone involved.

Does that make sense, probably not as it's far too early in the morning for me to be succinct and erudite but I might have another stab later on in the day.

Dom likes to walk around Ari's house naked ...
This is a worrying one because I don't even know a guy called Ari, although if I did I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate me gallumping around his house in the nude. This seems an unrealistic beginning if only because I tend to cover up with a fig leaf when visiting the houses of strangers.

Dom likes to scope people (ie put instruments up/down various body orifices)
I'm not even going to respond to this....

The DOM likes to get very technical
I do like to refer to myself using the definite article so this one works. I took part in one of those, tick box type surveys a couple of months ago and it discovered that I'm an analytical kind of guy. It's true, I'm a sucker for a Venn diagram or a nice graph. This probably comes from a deep-seated need to justify my Physics degree and prove that I'm a multi-talented PR, either that or I'm boring.

Dom likes to say that he still has a lot to learn; in fact he hopes to pursue a doctorate in education
Interesting fact, before I decided to fall into PR I was just about to jump headfirst into a PGCE with a view to teaching little cherubs all about sub-atomic particles and Lens' Law. I ended up joining the real world instead and my decision has been validated by stories of machete wielding 'cherubs' walking down corridors. It's one thing to run down corridors, another to run with scissors...but a machete! PR may be stressful but at least the chances for decapitation are kept to a minimum.

Dom likes to eat, and he also likes to cook, which is good because he is never without something nice to eat
...which is why I've joined the gym. The eating bit is spot on but I'm a terrible, terrible cook, although I recently mastered beans on toast.

Well I hope you know me a little better. I feel like I've learnt something from this shameless attempt to create a post out of nothing.

Now to tag some poor victims. I think this meme should be picked up by my online friends and work colleagues (past and present)...Ben Matthews, Tom Malcolm, Nick Morris and Yeelim Lee.
